Business System Specialist
Reporting to: Manager, Business Alignment
Education:
  • Bachelors Degree/College Diploma required (Area of study: Computer Science & Technology).
  • Business Analyst Certificate near completion (50%)

Work Experience:
  • 4 - 7 years of industry experience, preferably in a mutual fund company or mutual fund/securities dealer.
  • Good understanding of the rules governing the mutual funds industry.
  • Good understanding of AIC’s policies and procedures.
Essential Functions: Manage Defined Project:
  • Define project scope, develop and monitor project plan, and provide status updates to implementation.

Analyze and develop user requirements:
  • Investigate and analyze problems and business requirements by research, interviews, meetings and testing.
  • Conduct needs assessments across multiple business units to identify organization, information and integration requirements.
  • Working with the defined design, develops detailed specifications for software programming.
  • Determine impacts on all systems and processes. Ensure impact analysis on primary and related systems is complete and accurate. Examine all alternatives and recommend appropriate cost effective solution.

Document Scope and Requirements:
  • Prepare scope and detailed requirements documents.
  • Ensure scope is clearly defined, understood and accepted. Ensure requirements document is clear and concise, agreed to and signed off by stakeholders and the project sponsor.
  • Conduct requirement reviews are conducted as required with developers, testers and stakeholders.

Test and Implement Project:
  • Develop test plans and assist with system testing as required.
  • Assist in the development of user acceptance test plans, matrices and expected results. Follow up after implementation. Ensure UAT plans are complete. Obtain sign-offs required for implementation.
  • Follow up on all changes after implementation. Conduct / participate in post implementation reviews.
  • Assist with user training planning and execution as required.

System Development Lifecycle and Analytical Techniques:
  • Provide accurate and timely input based on knowledge of the system lifecycle.
  • Participate in peer review and provide assistance to other process analysts, developers and testers to ensure business requirements are fully understood.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements; develop templates and guidelines as required.

Troubleshooting existing applications, complex issues:
  • Prepare overview of existing functionality and what is required, reported as a systems issue.
  • Investigate the system issues to identify change in scope or business process.
  • Work with the developer to implement the required change, preparing change documents, testing scripts and updates to the process flow.
